Beyond its work with Miami-Dade County in the Executive and Mid-Manager Leadership Program and the Annual Mayor’s Conference, the Institute has several ongoing initiatives.

Currently the IPMCS is working with the State of Florida through the Governor's Office of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development to organize the First Conference on Good Governance and Democracy for the Hemisphere. Planned are a series of regional forums to be held in Latin America in the spring of 2008, which will conclude in a finale seminar hosted at the Biltmore Hotel, Miami in July of 2008. The seminars aims to discuss democratic principles in order to encourage a favorable economic environment necessary to generate growth while strengthen ties of friendship between regional legislators, private sector representatives and civil society in the region and the State of Florida.

Since 1997, IPMCS works with Miami-Dade County to organize the annual Inter-American Conference of Mayors and Local Authorities, which brings more than 500 mayors and city council members from all over Latin America and the Caribbean. The Conference provides a forum for representatives of local, regional and national governments, NGOs, various international and donor organizations and all of those interested in the strengthening of local governments to share experiences, information and practices and to discuss common goals for the promotion of democratic local governance throughout the Hemisphere.
